And what we can do about it.

Whoever you are, wherever you’re reading this, you’ve probably got a favourite food. If you’re like everyone I know, putting your hands on it is probably becoming a lot harder. Difficulty getting something you want can be immensely frustrating, but not getting something you need can be fatal. We can survive without our favourite meal, but no meal is a different story. Water, food & shelter are nonnegotiable basic needs. When the truly bottomless greed of billionaires takes food out of hungry mouths, people die. So I’d like to talk about risks to our food supply, obstacles to reliably getting dinner on the table, and what we can do about them.

Grocery costs are one place where we feel inflation bite most deeply, but inflation isn’t just A thing that gobbles a chunk out of your food dollar. It’s more useful to think of it as a swarm of little monsters that each nibble away to differing extents. Let’s break it down.

Sources of inflation that can impact your food dollar include:

• Demand pull inflation
• Cost push inflation
• Shrinkflation
• Skimpflation
• Shelflation
• Greedflation
• Heatflation
